Your First Visit

What to expect when you arrive

Your initial consultation lasts a full 60 minutes — not the rushed 15 minutes typical in the U.S. Here's what the experience looks like from start to finish.

Arrival and Check-In

Park at New City Medical Plaza's underground garage (available to patients). Take the elevator to the 25th floor, Suite 24. The reception area is quiet, private, and clearly marked. No long forms — we already have your basic information from your initial WhatsApp or email exchange.

60-Minute Comprehensive Evaluation

The full hour is yours. We'll cover your complete psychiatric history, current symptoms, lifestyle factors, previous treatments, family history, and treatment goals. I follow DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria — the same standards used by U.S. psychiatrists — so the language and approach will be familiar to anyone working with U.S. providers.

Personalized Treatment Plan

At the end of the visit, you'll leave with a clear diagnostic assessment and a personalized treatment plan — including medication recommendations only when clinically necessary, lifestyle adjustments, and a clear roadmap for follow-up. No pressure to start medication; we discuss all options openly.

Documentation You Can Use

A digital consultation summary arrives in your email within 24 hours. If medication is prescribed, you can fill it at a pharmacy in Zona Río before heading back across the border — most psychiatric medications cost significantly less in Mexico. We also provide detailed superbills with ICD-10 codes for potential PPO insurance reimbursement.

Common Questions

Booking & contact FAQ

Quick answers to the most common questions about scheduling, payment, and your visit.

01

How do I book my first appointment?

The fastest way is via WhatsApp at +52 664 484 2218 — most messages get a response within 2 to 4 hours during office hours. You can also call the same number or email dr.ernesto@doctorpsiquiatra.com. No referral or prior authorization is needed.
02

How soon can I get an appointment?

Most new patients are scheduled within 3 to 5 business days. Compare this to the typical 2-to-6-month wait for psychiatrists in San Diego and California. For urgent matters, please mention it when you contact us so we can prioritize.
03

Do you accept insurance?

We do not bill insurance directly. However, we provide detailed superbills with ICD-10 diagnostic codes and CPT procedure codes that many patients submit for out-of-network reimbursement under their PPO insurance plans. We recommend checking with your insurance provider beforehand about your out-of-network mental health benefits.
04

How much does a consultation cost?

Initial 60-minute consultation: $125 USD ($2,200 MXN). Follow-up 60-minute visit: $105 USD ($1,800 MXN). Online telepsychiatry: $125 USD (60 min via Google Meet). All visits last a full 60 minutes — not the rushed 15-minute slots typical in the U.S.
05

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, and cash in either U.S. dollars or Mexican pesos. Payment is due at the time of visit — no deposit required to book your appointment.
06

Where is the office located?

New City Medical Plaza, Paseo del Centenario 9580, Floor 25, Suite 24, Zona Río, 22010 Tijuana, B.C., Mexico. The office is 15 minutes from the San Ysidro border crossing by car. On-site underground parking is available for patients. View on Google Maps →
07

What are your office hours?

Monday through Thursday: 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Saturday: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Friday and Sunday: closed. All visits are by appointment only. WhatsApp messages outside office hours are answered the next business day.
08

Is it safe to come to Tijuana for the appointment?

Yes. New City Medical Plaza is located in Zona Río — Tijuana's safest and most developed commercial district. The same area where the U.S. Consulate, major hospitals, and international corporations are located. The building has 24-hour security, controlled access, and underground parking.
09

Do you offer online consultations?

Yes. 60-minute online telepsychiatry visits are available via Google Meet, with the same depth and quality as the in-person visit. The first consultation is always in person at our Tijuana office; follow-ups can be online for established patients when clinically appropriate and where legally permitted.
10

Can I bring my medications back across the U.S. border?

U.S. Customs generally allows individuals to bring a reasonable personal supply of prescription medications (typically up to 90 days) across the border with a written prescription. We provide clear prescriptions in English with international medication names so they're easy to identify at customs and at U.S. pharmacies if needed.

The first step is the hardest — we make it simple

No referral. No long forms. No months-long wait. Just send a message and we'll take it from there. Most patients are seen within 3 to 5 business days.
